I was really excited at the end of 2023 to get a Cardo Packtalk Edge, and also excited to get a GoPro Hero 12. While the 12 lacked a GPS, I had three other GoPros that have one, and honestly can only remember once where I put any kind of overlay on a video.
My initial experiment was, shall we say, uninspiring. (I should note that I was still using my Cardo Packtalk from 2017 at the time). Research was needed. It appeared that the GoPro Remote I was using was interfering with the bluetooth connection to the camera. That, and the headset had the constant, scratchy sound of an early 2000s bluetooth connection. Frustrated, I posted a video, and put everything aside.
Recently, our friends at Cardo were inspired, and posted a video to show two different ways to connect the Packtalk Edge to the Hero 12. The second is the most important – it lets you record the chat going on via their mesh connection, right into the video.
What I have learned is that you can’t have any other bluetooth take priority. Phone calls will kill the connection. The GPS can interfere. You can’t stream music. However, WOW the audio quality is the best I’ve ever heard.
See for yourself, as I ran a test on this the other day. Sorry about the shaky video, but it gets the point across!
